Sediment Fungal Communities of Constructed Wetlands Dominated by Zizania latifolia and Phragmites communis and Their Effect on Organic Pollutant Removal

The purpose of the study was to investigate relationship between wetland plants and fungal communities with a focus on their combined functions remove organic pollutants. Two constructed (CW) systems, covering total area 4.24 hm2, were established treat agricultural non-point source pollution using, respectively, Zizania latifolia (CW1) Phragmites communis (CW2) as dominant plant species. obtained results showed that CW1 performed much better than CW2 in terms promoting abundance diversity sediment community identified by high-throughput sequencing technology. enhanced activity shown be one main factors raised pollutant removal rates reduced contents target pollutants (COD, TN, TP NH4+-N) levels below stipulated national standards. Significant differences abundant fungi observed CW units inlet outlet sampling sites, indicating species concentrations key affecting community. findings provided not only understanding plant–fungi symbiotic system but also useful information for development
